We were talking about the power adapter for my MacBook Pro, which I had forgotten. So I was telling him that his iBook power adapter wouldn't work (because of the wattage) but he thought it was because I had a "foreign" laptop... :)

Tangentially related story: Last week I was ordering tickets through a box office in St Jean sur Richelieu, which I understand is less than 1 hour outside of Montreal. Normally if phoning Montreal, I'll just speak English, but since this was the banlieux I wondered if perhaps I shouldn't expect such a cultured attendant and so I conducted the call in French. As the gentleman on the other end of the phone finished my order, he asked for my mailing address so that he could post me the tickets. I replied that he could send them to '1286 Cartwright Street in Vancouver' and proceeded to give him the postal code. He then asked me which province that was in. !!!

Okay, okay, I have one too: I was in San Francisco (I think for the first time) and I stopped a fellow on the street to ask for directions. He rather kindly pointed me the right way before asking where I was from. "Vancouver, Canada," I said (the qualification added just in case he confused Canada's Vancouver with Vancouver, Washington). "Welcome to the U.S.A!" he said, pausing for a brief moment before asking, "... Canada's not in the U.S.A., is it?"

Why would you say Vancouver, CANADA, rather than Vancouver, BC... or were you actually trying to prevent confusion with the city of Vancouver, UNITED STATES? ;-)
