Rock You Like a Kaypro
Okay, enough of all that serious political talk.
I bought a cell phone this week and was dismayed to discover that when they say “polyphonic ring tones”, what they really mean is “painfully irritating MIDI versions of songs you probably hated to begin with”. For those who don’t know, MIDI songs are like a computer’s version of sheet music. There is no actual sound recorded in them, they are just played back with technology’s best attempt at “real instruments”. On your average computer, they sound like an old Casio keyboard, and on your cell phone, it’s more like a Commodore 64. Unless you have a real electric keyboard with good samples, prepare to rejoice in the 1980s video game era or else cover thine ears.
Anyway. Having said all that, I have found one thing which makes MIDI audio tolerable: ASCII music videos!
