Fashion Journalism Is The New Black!
Dragging the Weekend Post’s new Fashion section into the bathroom with me, I fully expected to flush it down the toilet in a fit of disgust at the parade of vertically stretched women and men whose clothes would at best inspire a harsh beating in the halls of any local high school.
And while I did, of course, find that, the section redeemed itself with Dale Hrabi’s spot-on account of life as a fashion magazine editor, or as he puts it, “And one page-flipping summer’s day, I came upon the proclamation that ‘purple is the new neutral for fall!’”
Yes, from the jarring combinations of adjectified nouns to the unnatural seasoning of exclamation marks, it’s all here. Everything is “crucial!” or “this season’s must-own!” No trend may remain merely neutral under the sharply trained eye of the fashion writer. Well, no trend, that is, besides purple.
Now if only the Post’s editors could follow this keen writer’s criticisms.
