Memories of Salt Lake City
Some favourite moments from last night’s hockey gold-inspired pandemonium:
- Stepping out of the pub after the game, feeling victorious, and hearing the roar of the gathering crowd on Ste-Catherine St. a block away.
- Seeing more Canadian flags on Montreal’s streets in one night than I have in the 4 years I’ve lived here.
- The surging crowd overtaking a #15 bus, threatening riotously to overturn it and then, in a Canadian instant, thinking better of it.
- Bumping into my pal Kieran, whom I had tried to get ahold of before the game, in the middle of all the tomfoolery.
- The goofs that circled a man and a man’s best friend, and started chanting, “Canadian dog, Canadian dog!”
- The cardboard cutout of Gretzky that someone steadfastly hoisted and paraded throughout the evening, even when his legs got torn and he turned into Gretzky Jr.
And oh yes, did I mention that when you get down to it, that was just a good old barn-burner of a hockey game?
