Maybe, just maybe, driving down

Maybe, just maybe, driving down the frosty, snow covered streets of Montreal in early February justifies an SUV (although millions seem to have gotten along just fine without them). When living in Vancouver, where it only snows to prove it's at least possible (and to make its citizens look foolish), I find the proliferation of SUV drivers on a gasoline high makes me shake my head in disgust. Recent price hikes in North America have led to much anger and resentment, but really, aren't drivers just paying for their consumption? Basic economics, right?

In the excellent spark-online, G.J. Lau paints the USA as a country hooked on a drug--gasoline--and proposes the appropriate remedies. Worth a read.
