Afternoon rant: When did leverage become a verb? Why are Internet companies always "leveraging technology?"

While 7 out of 8 web experts agree that "content" is key to, uh, leveraging a successful web site, one cannot help but roll one's eyes at the glut of e-commerce speak, perhaps the worst marriage of two styles of writing--marketingese and technobabble--to ever grace the keyboards of the land.
