Over There (in the UK)

If you’re like me, you

If you're like me, you get restless at work. If you're really like me, you like to break up longer periods of actual work-doing with shorter periods of, uh, resting the brain. A bit of goofing off is good for the soul.

If you're less like me, then you go outside and have a smoke. But if you're very very much like me, or you just plain are me, you have a fast connection to the Internet and Internet Explorer ready and waiting.

With that in mind comes, "your 5 minute digital smoke break." True to their word, inhalex is chock full of pithy, fairly light morsels. Short articles about frivolous things, divided into the usual suspects — movies, music, fashion, food, etc. Or, as they put it, "interesting and edgy content updated daily."

We'll forgive them for calling themselves "edgy," but inhalex is still a sweet distraction.

The design (your choice of regular or Flash) is definitely different. At times awkward and unfriendly, it is perhaps a tad overdone. But there is a nifty little 5 minute timer to let you know when it's time to butt out your digital smoke and get back to the digital grindstone. And lastly, and impressively, there are no ads. Hurrah for independent content.

In Earshot

I only really read it for Canucks coverage, but even still it’s nice that The Vancouver Sun finally redesigned its hideously awful website to look like it was designed this century.
